A White House spokesman told Christian broadcasters he has no explanation why President George W. Bush has not commented on the recent serial church burnings in Alabama, a spate of apparent arson attacks that seem to be targeting rural churches. White House Deputy Director of the Office of the Public Liaison Tim Goeglein says he is not aware of any response by the administration regarding the ten churches burned in the Yellowhammer State. “I pay close attention to the media availability and to the daily announcements,” Goeglein says. “I have not seen [an administration response to the church burnings]; so if there is one, I’m not aware of it.” Some Christian leaders have voiced concerns about the apparent silence from the Bush administration on these crimes against U.S. Christian churches, especially since the White House responded to the bombing of the Golden Mosque in Iraq, coming out with a strong condemnation of that attack against an Islamic sanctuary on foreign soil, within hours of the incident.
